The international Tango Orchestra SILENCIO was founded in 2001 in Europe. After just a few years the group gained a great reputation playing at tango festivals throughout Europe, and is now one of the most famous tango orchestras founded on the European continent — performing in its beginnings together with the beloved bandoneonist Alfredo Marcucci.

The profound quality of SILENCIO has been inspired by very pure styles, from Carlos Di Sarli and Rodolfo Biagi to Alfredo Gobbi: the bases of Silencio’s authentic sound. The group has developed its own and very personal sound, performing for more than ten years together.

SILENCIO consists of musicians from around the world — Argentina, Uruguay, Cuba, Germany, Italy and the USA — all residing in Europe. The members live in eight different cities across the continent: Basel, Zurich, Lyon, Freiburg, Berlin, Frankfurt, Madrid and Stockholm. The diversity and quality of their interpretations has gained the admiration of tango musicians and professionals, and SILENCIO is recognised as one of the three best large tango formations in Europe.

During 2013 Silencio performed at the most important venues of the tango-musical scene of Buenos Aires — Almagro Tango Club, Oliverio Girondo, La Casa del Tango, C.C. Torquato Tasso, Milonga El Canning and La Viruta — finding its place also among the Argentinian youth orchestras.

The group has published four albums — silencio (2005), SILENCIO en las almas (2009), Todo, menos la canción (2014) and Placer y locura (2020) — and a DVD, Live in Berlin (2007).
